The Ontario Home Energy Savings Program or Retrofit Rebate Program offers rebates to home owners who upgrade their homes' heating, cooling, ventilation, insulation, air sealing, doors, windows or toilets. In the case of insulating your foundation, the amount of the rebate you qualify for depends on how much insulation you install and how much of your foundation you insulate. As an example, if you covered 80% of your foundation with 2 inches of rigid foam insulation for a rating of R10, you would receive a rebate of $800.
In order to qualify for the rebate, you must get an energy audit done on your home first. Audits are performed by independent auditors and typically cost in the range of $300. However, the provincial government will refund up to half of the audit cost to a maximum of $150.
After you have the audit done, you can proceed with having the insulation work done on your home. When the work is completed, the auditor has to return and do another audit to confirm that the work was completed. Then you can apply for your rebate.
